AGM and seminar: Managing web sites to meet end user needs

6pm on Monday 20th March 2006 at National Library of Scotland, Edinburgh

AGM

SIN will hold its second AGM on Monday 20 March. Members are invited to get involved and input into the running of the group, by joining the committee or tabling motions to be heard at the AGM. If you want to nominate yourself or another member for committee membership, download a nomination form and send it to John Coll or bring it along on the night. If you want to raise anything formally at the AGM, send an email to John Coll.

Of course, members are always invited to get involved in the running of SIN in a less formal way, and can do so throughout the year at meetings or between meetings by contacting any of the committee.

Seminar

Following the AGM, we will be holding a seminar looking at managing web sites successfully.

Our first speaker is Steve McGowan, Senior Executive at TalentScotland & E-Networks, International Operations, Scottish Enterprise. Steve joined Scottish Enterprise in September 1997 as its first full-time Internet Technologies Manager in the e-Business directorate, and then moved to International Operations in 2000 where he now manages the Scottish Development International web site. Steve has been designing and building information systems for 20+ years, and sent his first email in 1983. Steve will be presenting "Key issues in developing an international web channel" and will cover areas including:

In a change to the draft agenda, the second speaker will now be Claire Innes, Royal Bank of Scotland Group, who will talk about web site management from a different perspective. Claire has experience of managing various team-level intranet sites, personal web sites, and designed and now runs the Scottish Information Network web site. She will talk about the challenges of managing small web sites and, as a case study, will talk about the SIN web site design, creation and maintenance.

Following the presentations and discussion, there will be drinks and buffet and a chance to network with SINners.

Many thanks to SWETS Information Services for kindly sponsoring this event, and to John Coll and the National Library of Scotland for hosting the meeting.
